Types of Day Labor Jobs

The term “day laborer” usually conjures up an image of people who are hired for a single day, or maybe more. But did you know there are plenty of other kinds of day labor positions? There might even be a kind of work you’d be perfect for if you’re looking to make some extra money on the side or while you’re figuring out your next career move!

Groundskeepers can be day Laborers

If a golf course is looking for extra help for a big event, or because their regular staff is shorthanded, a day laborer or small crew might be needed to help keep the grounds looking their best. The kinds of tasks required could include laying sod, mowing the lawn, trimming trees, grooming sandtraps, watering or planting flowers and other greenery.

Picker/Packer jobs can be a Single day Job

Suppose a warehouse is hit with unexpectedly big orders and a short deadline to get everything ready for shipment. In that case, they might need people who can quickly help sort, fill and complete orders while preparing them for packing, shipping and delivery. People tasked in a picker/packer position need great organizational skills, the ability to follow instructions closely and the attention to detail to keep everything in line and moving quickly, no matter how high the demand.

Clean-up Crews for big Events

Parades, sporting events, concerts, and other large gatherings that generate a lot of trash and debris call for a one-day clean-up crew to come in. Sometimes, this also involves cleaning up large convention halls, vacuuming and sweeping floors, washing windows, and otherwise working hard to eliminate any evidence from a big event. Clean-up crews are also needed to put the finishing touches on a construction site after the big equipment leaves, and there’s some tidying up to do. Speaking of events…

Big Events Need day Laborers!

Think of all the work that goes into a one-day event. Security, supplying concessions, keeping bathrooms clean, helping to check in guests, running supplies back and forth throughout the event; so many things are one-day-only affairs that need extra help. The same goes for hotels, convention centers, weddings, and other big parties, which often require extra hands to make the event run smoothly and seamlessly for the customer’s big day.

And Then There’s The Need for General Laborers

While there are plenty of other kinds of day labor jobs, general laborers and construction workers are the ones most people think of when they think about day laborers. Construction crews will have their regular team at a job site, but sometimes they run out of time and need extra hands to help put up walls, lay down a roof, run wiring or pipes to complete the job. These kinds of jobs also look for people to help run supplies, set up, hold and take down ladders and other infrastructure on a job site. They might also need someone to help with traffic control as a flagger, to prevent heavy machinery from interrupting the flow of traffic and keeping everyone safe.

However, you need to consider what kind of recruiting firm is the right fit for your organization. This process includes deciding between using a national agency or a local staffing firm. Large national staffing agencies provide useful benefits to their clients, including large candidate pools and modern technology. However, many also lack meaningful connections within the local business community and a deep understanding of the region’s job market. If your business wants the benefits of a national recruiting firm, finding one with local expertise is critical. Let’s take a closer look at this important issue for companies needing an influx of talent.
